Why Movement Is Part of the Plan
The weekly target sounds large until it becomes a walk, a class, and two short strength sessions with names and times attached.
The short answer
CDC guidance says adults 65 and older need aerobic activity, muscle-strengthening work, and balance activity each week, with activity adjusted to individual abilities and conditions.1
For most adults in that age group, the aerobic target is at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week, plus muscle strengthening on at least two days.1 A clinician can help adapt those targets when health conditions affect what is appropriate.
What moderate activity actually feels like
The CDC uses a practical test: during moderate activity, a person can talk but cannot sing.2 Brisk walking, water aerobics, cycling on level ground, and active forms of yoga can count.
The full amount can be spread across the week and broken into smaller pieces. That makes a plan built around routine more useful than one ambitious session that rarely happens.
Strength and balance need their own place
Walking does not cover every part of the guideline. Muscle-strengthening activities should work the major muscle groups on two or more days. Balance practice belongs in the week as well.1
That might mean an in-home trainer, a supervised class, exercises supplied by a physical therapist, or simple balance work approved by a clinician. The Blueprint records the choice, schedule, transportation, and person responsible for follow-through.
Build around preference and access
The best activity is one your loved one wants to repeat and can reach reliably. A familiar walking route may work better than a new gym. A class with friends may support movement and connection at the same time.
Vivere can coordinate instructors, transportation, schedules, and vetted in-home providers through Wellness & Movement services. Clinical recommendations stay with qualified medical and therapy professionals.
Put movement into the full week
Movement depends on the rest of the plan. Transportation has to arrive. Appointments cannot crowd out every class. Meals and rest have to fit around activity. Someone has to notice when the routine stops working.
That is why Move Well sits beside four other areas. Read the five areas behind every Blueprint.
